Mary was born on April 23, 1946 in Braxton County. She married, had two Children and traveled and lived in many states, but made Panama City her home now for 48 years.
She loved people and never met a stranger. Mary loved to spend time with family and friends, cook, play card games, bingo and listen to country music. She was a great storyteller and singer. Mary worked with her beloved husband as a truck driver for 18 years, but her greatest joy in her life was helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! They always knew how much she loved and adored them.
She spoke to everyone, even in lines at stores, gas stations, or wherever she had the chance. She would always help anyone and give the shirt off her back if she thought you needed it.
She was a wonderful woman, wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her life on earth was a not an easy one, starting at an early age. Living with the pain she has lived with for the past 15 years has taken a toll; missing people she loved has taken a toll. Mary lived through tornadoes, hurricanes Frederick, Opal, and Michael-Michael being the worst- she lost everything. But she lived through them. Then Mary lost both her sisters, and then her husband of 52 years! She always showed the ones she loved just how much she loved them, and how to be strong and not to let life get her down. She did this right until the very end! But her poor body, heart and soul could not endure missing so many she loved! Mary will find them in Heaven again. She will be singing and dancing, laughing and playing all over again. Our hearts are broken, with tears in our eyes. but we are smiling back knowing she is at peace with no more pain, forevermore.

John Dean Forbush
John Dean Forbush, 24, of Gassaway passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
He was born in Elyria, Ohio on April 25, 1998 to Dean Robert Forbush and the late Kristina Lynn Stewart.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Donald Lee Richardson; and grandfather, John William Stewart.
When John was younger and living in Ohio, he and his brother, William, spent most weekends competing in turkey shoots and fishing tournaments. In 2011 he and William moved to WV to live with his grandmother and step grandfather. On September 25, 2011 he was baptized and became a member of Gassaway Baptist Church. Around this time, his passion for working on engines started early when at Gassaway Days one year he participated in the garden tractor pull. He fired up an old Sears lawn mower and painted it so many times it was believed to be held together with paint. He had several good friends and mentors who helped him build and hone the skill of competitive engine pulling. At 15 he started flipping trucks and bringing them back to working order for himself, friends and others who asked him. It wasn’t long before John had worked and made 50 trucks better. He bought, traded and sold until he had a truck that he wanted, a diesel Power Stroke. He eventually realized he would only be satisfied working for himself and he made it happen. He became the owner and operator of Braxton Auto and Diesel Repair Shop on Route 4. He also loved animals and particularly had a self-taught passion for showing horses. He and his fiancée had quarter horses and participated in competitive barrel racing, poles, and Western Pleasure. John was President of the West Fork Riding Club. He was a member of the Gassaway Fire Department Station #2. For a time he announced youth basketball games and also moved the chains for football in support for his little brother, who was on the team. Last year he tried his hand at the Demolition Derby. Their daughter was born in 2021 and he reveled in his new role as father. He had a really good sense of humor and loved to joke and kid around. Anything that he set his mind to, he became passionate about. John had a helping heart who never met a stranger and he touched the lives of individuals in our county as well as in other states.
John will be forever remembered by his fiancée, Amber Lynn Frame and daughter, Krislynn Grace Forbush of Gassaway; brother, William Alan Forbush of Gassaway; grandparents; Ruth Ann and Dave Samples of Frametown; father, Dean Robert Forbush; aunt, Rachel Boskovitch and husband, Frank, of Ohio and aunt, Rachel Collins of Ohio; his fiancée’s parents, Vern and Marshall Frame of Gassaway; and best friend, JC Hoard. Shawna Delaine (Gibson) Moore
Our beloved Shawna Delaine (Gibson) Moore passed unexpectedly in the early morning hours of April 10, 2022. She was in her favorite pajamas in her favorite spot next to the kitten she rescued 10 years ago. She was 58 years young.
Shawna was the youngest of four, and was born in Anderson, IN, on February 2, 1964. She graduated from Pendleton Heights High School in 1982 in Pendleton, IN. She attended Ball State University, where she graduated with an A.A. degree in business.
After stops in Florida and Nevada, she moved to Lompoc, CA, where she met her future husband of 27 years, Dale Moore. In 1994, Shawna and Dale moved to Las Vegas, NV where they were married the following year and started a family soon after.
After 10 years in Las Vegas, an opportunity arose and they moved to Glenville, to help her brother, Thor, open a coffee shop. After the shop ran its course, she shared her nurturing touch with seniors and children alike working at the Senior Center and Headstart in Gilmer County. She was well-known for driving the short bus throughout the county.
Shawna’s next chapter began at Glenville State University working as an administrative assistant for Aramark dining services, where she touched many lives of students and coworkers alike. Her laughter and spirit were contagious, no matter where you were; if you heard her laugh, you laughed with her. She was the most radiant person that had an immense love for her flower garden, traveling, Friday night cookouts with friends and family, rock and roll, and so much more. She touched so many lives with her beautiful soul and we cherish the fact that everyone she met was impacted by her genuine positivity and larger than life personality.
Shawna is survived by her husband, Dale Moore, her oldest daughter, Kitric Moore-Broussard, and husband, Austin, and her youngest daughter Keaton, all of Glenville. She is also survived by her brother Thor Gibson, of Glenville, and sister, Jonny Salyer, and husband, Randy, of St. Augustine, FL, and their son, Joshua. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Garnett Christine Tomblin Westbrook; son, Doyle (Lori) Westbrook; three daughters: Gail (Gary) Westbrook, Joy (Jim) Pignato, and Holly (Dave) Donovan; and four sisters: Freda Johnstone, Thelma Medley, Betty Boseger, and Bonnie Hendricks. With his father’s consent, at 17 years of age Paul dropped out of high school to enlist in the United States Navy. Four years in the Navy gave Paul the structure that paved his path in life, instilled his passion for travel, and gave him the opportunity to meet the love of his life, Garnett. Newly married, Paul finished high school and began what would be a 10+ year journey in higher education. He obtained a four year degree and graduated Valedictorian of his class at God’s Bible School and College while working full time at Westinghouse in Cincinnati, Ohio. Two years at Wilmington College and graduating with honors allowed him to continue on for a Master’s Degree in Theology from the United Theological Seminary. Several years later, he obtained a teaching degree from Glenville State College in West Virginia while working at Kinney Shoe Factory. Paul spent the first half of his professional life as a Minister in Ohio, the second half as a social worker in West Virginia, and his entire life as a teacher. He truly believed in life-long learning and was a ferocious reader of all subject matter which is how he obtained a “doctored” Doctorate in Quackery. Outside of his professional life, Paul participated in Good Sam’s Camping Club, Fishing Clubs, Green Key Society of Wilmington College, visited and drove in all 50 US states, traveled internationally, and attended grandchildren and great-grandchildrens’ extra-curricular activities, even when it meant traveling cross country. Always a hard worker, he also spent many years “Down on the Farm” as a Gentleman Farmer. While he loved getting into deep, philosophical discussions, his greatest love was for his family and friends. Rest peacefully, Paul. You were such a passionate, honest, strong, respectable, loving, generous man. You are forever held in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to WV Caring, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 (wvcaring.org). Paul’s request for Cremation has been honored at Pat Boyle Funeral Home’s On-Site Crematory. Margaret Kay Curry ChicoMargaret Kay Curry Chico, 82, of Glenville, obtained her healing with her three children, who adore her, by her side on Fri., Jan. 28 at 4:33 a.m.
Kay was born Feb. 8, 1939 in Logan, WV. She was the only daughter of the late Earl Moss and Lydia Margurite Johnson Curry. She was preceded in death by her only brother, Earl Moss Curry, Jr.; her husband and love of her life, Joseph Eugene Chico; and her best friend and partner in crime, Bea Ellyson. Kay was a graduate of Pineville High School in Pineville, WV. While in high school, she was a cheerleader and very active in theater productions. She went on to West Virginia University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and continued her love for the stage. Kay played Poopsie in Pajama Game her first year of college. She joined Alpha Phi Sorority and met her husband, Joe. Kay and Joe married in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. To this loving marriage, three children were born. She moved to Tucson, AZ where she obtained her first Master’s Degree at University of Arizona in Physical Education. Near the end of her professional career, Kay obtained a second Master’s Degree in Public Health from WVU. Education was a passion! Her first year of teaching was spent at Tucson High School where she always said the students there called her “Mes.” When she talked about her time at Tucson High, she had a pat response of “I hate Meses to pieces.” Her love for West Virginia drew her back to the state. She was offered jobs teaching at Marshall University and Glenville State College. She chose to teach at GSC where she spent 35 years impacting the lives of students and the college community. Kay was a safe haven for many students who were far from home while obtaining their college degree. Many students spent their time dancing in the living room of her home with her children on the weekends. As her children got older, they learned of her “bring your own steak nights.” Kay would provide the side dishes and students would bring their own steaks and grill. Later in her teaching career, even though she professed to not like college students, she allowed several of them to live in her home so they could get their degrees. She was very active in Glenville First Baptist Church. She made sure her children were raised in church and knew God. Her children were very lucky to have such a Godly mother. Kay was literally a world traveler. She and her friends traveled to Greece, Russia, England, Italy, Australia, Scotland, Caribbean Islands, Hawaii and all across the U. S. She loved everywhere she traveled. The only complaint we ever heard about her travels was that returning from out west in the U.S. by the southern route, there was nothing to see because trees were planted along the highways. She thought that was dumb. She was a sports fanatic. She loved football and basketball. She hated baseball. Literally, hated it. She always said that if a major league baseball team was playing in her front yard, she wouldn’t look out the window. She attended every GSC football and basketball game. She also watched every WVU football and basketball game and watched every other team that played on television. She would coach them loudly as she watched. WVU was special and they were always coached from the beginning to end. If WVU would be losing, pacing would begin and you weren’t to speak until they began winning again. She once got the flu and said that if you had to be sick, during March Madness was the time to do it so you could lay on the couch and watch basketball. Kay is survived by her three children, Margaret Lynn Chico-Eddy of Charleston, Myra Sue Chico Miller of Glenville and Eric David Chico (Jackie) of Newark, OH., four grandchildren, Erica Sue Eddy Allsup (Matthew) of Charleston, Eric David Curry Chico of Newark, OH, Jack E. Louis Chico of Newark, OH and Joshua Bly Miller (Brandie) of Glenville and three great-grandchildren, Katherine Myra Campbell of Charleston, Kevin Marcus Campbell of Charleston and Myla Bly Miller of Glenville; her son from another mother, Terry Ellyson; and host of Glenville State graduates that she considered to be her children. Kay is also survived by her sister-in-law Ginny Curry of Albuquerque, NM, two nieces, Sarah Curry (David King) of Cleveland Heights, OH, Lucy Mahlum (Jim) of Santa Fe, NM, two cousins, Jane Franklin of Charlottesville, VA and Mary Olive Elder (Jerry) of Montgomery, TX . She has many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews on the Chico side who she loves very much. Kay’s life will be celebrated on Sat., Feb. 5 at Ellyson Mortuary in Glenville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The service will be at 2 p.m. Rev. David Carpenter will be doing the service and special music will be provided by Kay’s best girl, Allie Ellyson. Burial will follow at Stalnaker Cemetery in Glenville. Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., is honored to assist the the family of Margaret Kay Chico with arrangements. |

Geneva Osteen Kirkpatrick (Genny)
Genny was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She left this life suddenly on Saturday January 1, 2022, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Genny was born in Bronson, FL, September 21, 1928, daughter of Geneva Berryhill Osteen and Leander (Lee) Alexander Osteen, of Otter Creek, FL. She was their third child, and only daughter. Her mother passed when she was only six years old. School was one of her loves, along with books. She graduated with high honors and went on to attend Bob Jones University with a degree in Religion and History. In 1950 she graduated. She and a collage friend traveled to Gilmer County, to teach Bible School for the summer, with a missionary for the American Sunday School Union, Glenn U. Kirkpatrick. After the summer she returned to North Carolina to teach a semester. In December 1950 she returned to West Virginia and married Glenn Kirkpatrick. There was a huge snow storm that December that shocked the young Florida lady. Genny was a partner with him, in the American Sunday School Union, typing reports, putting out newsletters, teaching Sunday School, Bible School and Bible Camp. They had three children Glenn Joel (Joey), Rebecca B. (Becky) and Robert William Paul (Bobby). Summers were filled traveling from county to county in West Virginia having Bible Schools, ending with a Bible Camp in August. During the rest of the year, it was a different church or one room school house each Sunday for Sunday School and preaching. In all of her free time she taught herself to drive and took a class at the Gilmer County Career Center to learn to work on cars. She never missed a band concert, choir concert or ball game that her children were in. Genny worked for the Dept of Human Services as a social worker, and then for the Area Agency on Aging at the Gilmer County Senior Citizens’ Center. The book worm in her, took her back to school at Marshall University for a Masters in Special Education and Learning Disabilities. It was back to teaching, this time in the Gilmer County School system. Special Olympics became a big part of her life. She loved working with the children and giving them new experiences. For 30 years she was the Director of Special Olympics in Gilmer County. When our house needed an addition, she built one on. Nothing could stop this lady. When grandchildren came, there was plenty of love to go around. As with her children, she was always there for them. Stewarts Creek Church was her home church. Genny served on the board of the Gilmer County Historical Society. The newsletter for the Gilmer County WV Retired School Employees was one of her projects she loved doing. She was a member of the Marthas and Marys of Gilmer County and received the Helping Hands Award. Others now saw, what we always knew, she was the one behind the scenes lifting all the rest of us up. Genny was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Glenn U. Kirkpatrick, her sons Joey and Bobby Kirkpatrick, her granddaughters Julia Erin Oppe and Oakley Monroe Kirkpatrick, her mother Geneva and father Lee Osteen, her brothers Lee and Richard Osteen. Surviving are her daughter Becky, and son-in law, Jim Oppe, grandchildren children, Tiffany, and her husband, Mitch Davis, their children Luke and Emma, Whitney Oppe and Woody Porter; Carrie, and her husband, Kevin Summers and son Wyatt, Tommy Kirkpatrick, his wife Amber, their children Keegan and Ava, Charlie Kirkpatrick, Tara, and her husband, Billy Eagleston and children Kylie and Landyn, and Chandra Kirkpatrick and her children Jade and Trinity. And Genny’s adopted families the Dorans and Pifers. Print Button
What you need to know:
The print button is a green rectangle with a little printer icon in it.
The print button we've added had to come from a third party, as our website host does not have one of their own.
What this means for you is that when you hit the print button, you're going to be whisked away to a new page where you will see a print preview. At the top of this preview you will see the print button on the left, options to increase the text size and image size in the middle and an X on the right, to close the preview.
As you move your mouse around the preview you'll also notice that when you hover over text or an image that a yellow bar will appear. On that bar you'll see a little trash can, if you click that trash can you can delete that item from your print preview, meaning that it will no longer print on the page. Using this method you can remove all unwanted content from your print preview before you hit the final print button so you don't end up with a bunch of content you don't want.
Now, once you've clicked the print button on the left, your computer's print screen will come up asking you all the usual questions, which pages, how many copies, etc. You can simply hit print and collect your print out!
Once you've printed, your browser will remain on the print preview and a new small window will pop up that says “printing your page” across the top and has an X on the right hand side. Down below you'll notice there are advertisements, those aren't from us, they're from the third party that we got the print option from. They're best ignored. Just click the X in the right hand corner to continue.
Click the X again on the print preview page and you'll be redirected back to our website!
